Omega (War of the Alphas #1) by S.M. Reine

Paranormal

What Goodreads says:

Ten years ago, Deirdre Tombs died. When she was reborn the next day, Deirdre had become a shapeshifter who can't shift shapes. Nobody knows what animal she's supposed to be. She's definitely not a werewolf. The Alpha, Rylie Gresham, can't force her to transform like other members of her pack.

Now Deirdre is considered an omega, the weakest shapeshifter in the pack--a vulnerable position when Everton Stark demands tribute from Rylie. He wants to be the dominant Alpha. The only Alpha. And he plans to make her pack submit whether they want to or not. Stark can make every shapeshifter obey him by force of will alone.

Every shapeshifter except Deirdre.

The shifter who can't shift is the only hope for Rylie to win the war against Stark. It will take everything Deirdre has to survive undercover in his den. But can an omega's will be stronger than that of a charismatic, deadly Alpha like Everton Stark?

Omega is the first in a new paranormal series by S.M. Reine.  I am always looking for new series to read and this looked interesting.

There were things I liked.  The world building was interesting and has a lot of potential.  After that the book was a big disappointment.  I never got a handle on the characters.  While Deirdre was interesting the other characters surrounding her never rang true.  That left the plot limping along without much support.

I did see the end coming.   It is a cliff-hanger that does not solve anything just sets up the next book.  I will give book 2 a try to see if the series get better.  It does have potential it just is not realized in book one.

Red Iris Books published Omega by S.M. Reine in 2015

I received an ARC of Omega from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
